Over 125 years of building fine young men

Sydney Church of England Grammar School opened on 4 May, 1889 with an initial enrolment of 24 boys.

Shore, as it is now commonly known, has an enrolment of over 1600 students.

Shore fosters a learning environment for its students and staff that:

  • Promotes a Christian understanding of the world and society in which we live,
  • Pursues and celebrates academic performance in a culture of learning and thinking,
  • Challenges all to be responsible citizens with an attitude of service to others,
  • Welcomes new experience and learning at all stages of life,
  • Lives according to the Christian virtues of humility, perseverance, courage and love of others and
  • Develops individual gifts and talents that cultivate the habits of successful team membership.

The School operates under the oversight of the School Council which is comprised of Old Boys, Anglican Clergy and Synod nominees. The Council is responsible for the governance and management of the School and delegates the day to day management of the School to the Headmaster.

The Shore Foundation

The role of The Shore Foundation is to assist and support the School to develop and maintain excellence in education, facilities and community service and is dedicated to Shore’s continual development as one of Australia’s leading independent schools.

The Shore Foundation Limited was established as a Public Company in 1976, making it one of the oldest school foundations in Australia. Its activities are managed by a Board of Directors, providing the necessary direction for its programmes and delegates day-to-day management to the Executive Director and his team.

Students today are the beneficiaries of past generosity that has empowered the School to provide the highest standard of education possible. Donations to The Shore Foundation via the AIS USA Foundation can be directed towards;

Scholarships Trust – scholarships and bursaries for boys who will benefit substantially by attending the School and in turn make a significant contribution to the life of the School.

Building Trust – supporting the School to provide a ‘state-of-the-art’ academic and sporting facility. The proposed project will include Teaching and Learning spaces, Aquatic Centre and a Multi-purpose Sports Facility.

Museum Trust – to maintain and preserve the records and history of Shore for future generations.

All Sports Fellowship – dedicated to the professional development of Shore coaching staff across all sports and grades, for all boys.

Bequest Programme – helping us to fulfil our goal of excellence and achievement in teaching, now and into the future.

All gifts are gratefully received.
