Westbourne Grammar School

“Shaping learners who inspire the world”

Founded in 1867, Westbourne Grammar School is a leading, coeducational, independent Early Learning to Year 12 School with an enrolment of 1,500 students.

Steeped in history and tradition, and set across two superb campuses in Williamstown and Truganina (just 20 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD), the School has undertaken considerable expansion, and recently opened the doors of the new, purpose-built, Amici – Westbourne Early Learning Centre (inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach).

The School has also completed the Year 7 and LOTE building, and has commenced a capital campaign to raise funds to support the opening of a Sports and Aquatic Centre to coincide with Westbourne’s Sesquicentennial celebrations in 2017.

Education, and its effective delivery, is the foundation of Westbourne Grammar School. The curriculum at all levels is based on a belief that all students need to have a strong grounding in the key areas of literacy and numeracy, which is demonstrated through our outstanding VCE and NAPLAN results.

What sets Westbourne apart from all other independent primary schools and secondary colleges is our unique community. It really is a school for the whole family. Our culture is one of students, teachers and parents all working together to create a safe, caring and nurturing environment that makes the school experience more enjoyable. This supportive and stimulating environment begins at Amici – Westbourne Early Learning Centre, and continues through to the completion of VCE, when the student is ready for tertiary studies.

The teaching staff at Westbourne Grammar School have the students and their learning front and centre in everything they do – from their innovative thinking, through to the planning and delivery. Westbourne teachers focus on sharing the best teaching practices within the school and, in turn, the School invests heavily in their development, encouraging teachers to participate in professional development to stay abreast of current educational trends in a rapidly changing industry.

Westbourne Grammar’s focus for each student is on academic excellence and personal development, offering them the opportunities to reach their potential in an increasingly complex world.
